CAIRO — Telecom Egypt has decided not to proceed with a proposed transaction that would have transferred a 75%–80% stake in a subsidiary owning its Regional Data Center Hub.

The company said the proposed deal with Helios Investments would not proceed because certain conditions in the term sheet were not satisfied. Telecom Egypt confirmed that it will instead continue with plans to place its data-center assets and operations into a 100%-owned specialized subsidiary.

The decision highlights the growing strategic importance of data centers to Egypt’s technology sector. Telecom Egypt said the new structure is intended to provide greater focus on expanding data-center operations and taking advantage of rising demand in local and international markets.

The company also said the decision would have no financial or operational impact on its existing operations, while its data-center services and expansion plans will continue.

Technology analysts say the move could strengthen Egypt’s position in regional cloud, enterprise hosting, and digital infrastructure markets as businesses and government institutions increasingly require secure and scalable data services.

Telecom Egypt’s decision marks a significant development in Egypt’s digital infrastructure strategy and could accelerate the expansion of locally controlled data-center capacity.
