Artists and academic researchers gathered in Saaba on 26 September for a discussion on how art can support community life, as part of the first edition of the Teegre-Mémoire Festival.

The panel, held at the Pan-Taabo Cultural Centre in the Samandin neighbourhood, brought together actresses Mouna Ndiaye and Laure Guiré, alongside researchers Fatou Ghislaine Sanou and Sibdou Nelly Maria Belemgnygré. Journalist Abibata Ouattara moderated the session, which focused on the theme “Art in its Community.”

Participants discussed how theatre, cinema and other creative practices can encourage dialogue, help people share experiences and bring neighbours together. The speakers also reflected on the value of creating cultural activities within local neighbourhoods, where residents can take part directly.

The festival’s programme combined artistic events with public discussion, giving performers and researchers a space to exchange ideas about the role of culture in everyday life. The panel was one of the events held during the festival’s opening edition in Saaba.
