KIGALI, Rwanda — Rwanda is stepping up efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure as the country continues positioning itself as a regional technology and connectivity hub.

The Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA) highlighted the importance of stronger internet interconnection, resilient digital infrastructure and affordable access during the 15th African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF 2026), held in Kigali from August 18 to 20.

The forum brought together internet and technology leaders from across Africa to discuss how improved interconnection can strengthen the continent’s digital ecosystem.

Rwanda has been expanding its digital services and infrastructure, while authorities are increasingly focused on building networks that can support growing demand for cloud services, online government platforms, digital businesses and emerging technologies.

Stronger regional internet connectivity could help reduce digital bottlenecks, improve service reliability and support Rwanda’s growing technology sector.

The initiative also highlights Kigali’s growing role as a meeting point for Africa’s internet and technology community.

For Rwanda’s digital economy, reliable and affordable connectivity is becoming increasingly important as businesses, public institutions and consumers move more services online.
