Botswana's telecommunications industry is entering a new phase as Mascom Wireless expands its business into cloud computing, cybersecurity and digital financial services, moving beyond traditional mobile connectivity.
The company's technology expansion was highlighted in an October 28 report by The Business Weekly & Review. The strategy reflects Mascom's ambition to become a broader technology services provider for businesses, institutions and individual customers.
Through its Enterprise Cloud Solutions, Mascom is offering services that include private and hybrid cloud infrastructure, data storage, networking, disaster recovery and cybersecurity.
The expansion could give Botswana businesses greater access to locally delivered digital infrastructure, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises looking to modernise their operations and protect important business information.
Mascom has also entered digital financial services through products such as MyZaka FlexiSure, developed in partnership with Botswana Life Insurance Limited.
Chief Executive Officer Makhwade-Seboni said the company intends to build on its existing telecommunications infrastructure while developing technology solutions that respond to changing customer needs.
The company is also upgrading its customer service channels, including its online portal and selected retail outlets.
However, Mascom has not disclosed the total investment allocated to the expansion or specific revenue targets.
The move could strengthen Botswana's local technology sector, particularly as demand for secure cloud services, digital payments and business cybersecurity continues to grow.
