Libya’s cultural scene has received a new boost with the conclusion of the first Waddan Heritage and Folk Arts Festival in the historic city of Waddan.

Held over four days, the September festival brought together cultural groups, associations and productive families from different parts of Libya. The programme featured traditional crafts, folk clothing, woodwork, leather products, dates and traditional foods, alongside displays of historic objects, manuscripts and other heritage items.

Visitors also explored the old city of Hun and the Washka Dam, while a heritage exhibition presented traditional products and objects reflecting the cultural history of the Jufra region.

The festival concluded with music, poetry and artistic performances, including participation from cultural groups from Benghazi and other Libyan cities. Organizers highlighted cultural exchange and the importance of connecting traditional heritage with younger generations.

The event was held under the theme “A Speaking Identity… A History Revived,” positioning heritage, traditional arts and cultural tourism at the centre of the four-day programme.
