MONROVIA, Liberia — Liberia is pressing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to accelerate work toward a proposed second compact, with government officials linking the initiative to infrastructure development and improved conditions for businesses.

Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan held high-level discussions with MCC officials as both sides continued work on the proposed compact. The government is seeking faster progress through the remaining technical and preparatory stages.

A major focus is electricity infrastructure, which officials have identified as an important constraint on business activity and industrial development. The proposed compact is expected to address infrastructure needs that could support investment and economic activity, although its final scope and financing arrangements remain subject to the ongoing process.

The latest discussions come as Liberia seeks to attract more private investment and strengthen infrastructure supporting businesses. No final compact agreement has yet been announced, meaning the proposed programme remains under development.
