MONROVIA, Liberia — Five opposition political parties in Liberia have agreed to strengthen coordination after their leaders signed a joint communiqué at a political roundtable in Monrovia on September 27.

The parties involved are led by former President George Manneh Weah, Alexander Cummings, Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Simeon C. M. Freeman and Jonathan A. Mason. According to The Liberian Post, the leaders agreed to establish a technical committee to support continued coordination among the opposition groups.

The communiqué addresses issues including national security, economic governance, anti-corruption, judicial independence, freedom of expression and electoral integrity. The parties said their cooperation would focus on holding the Unity Party-led government accountable.

The development adds a new element to Liberia’s political landscape as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2029 presidential and legislative elections. The extent and structure of the cooperation will depend on subsequent discussions and the work of the technical committee.
