ASMARA, Eritrea — Eritrea and Egypt are strengthening economic ties as the two countries explore opportunities for industrial cooperation and joint investment.
Recent high-level discussions have involved Egyptian officials and business representatives examining potential opportunities across several sectors, including agriculture, mining, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and maritime transport.
The engagement comes as Eritrea seeks to develop sectors beyond traditional economic activities and attract greater investment into areas with export potential.
Mining remains one of the most closely watched investment sectors, while fisheries, agriculture and tourism also offer opportunities linked to Eritrea’s extensive Red Sea coastline and natural resources.
The two countries have also discussed strengthening transport and maritime connections, potentially supporting the movement of goods and improving regional trade links.
For Eritrean businesses, stronger Egyptian involvement could create opportunities for technology transfer, partnerships, new markets and investment capital.
The latest cooperation also reflects growing commercial interest in the Red Sea and Horn of Africa, where improved logistics and infrastructure could support regional trade.
If the proposed partnerships develop into concrete projects, they could give Eritrea’s private sector and exporters new opportunities while strengthening economic ties with Egypt.
