Egyptian businesses could gain access to new expansion capital after the European Investment Bank (EIB) committed $37.5 million to Tanmiya Capital Fund II, a private investment fund designed to support established, high-growth companies across the country.
Announced in Cairo on October 26, 2026, the investment helped the fund reach a final size of $130 million, exceeding its original fundraising target of $120 million. The fund is managed by Egyptian investment firm Tanmiya Capital.
The fund plans to invest in companies operating across several sectors, including healthcare, professional training, financial technology, consumer goods, logistics and transport. The objective is to help businesses expand their operations, improve management and compete more effectively in domestic and international markets.
The investment brings together international and Egyptian financial institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation, the Egyptian-American Enterprise Fund and Egypt’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency.
Access to long-term growth capital remains a major challenge for many small and medium-sized enterprises. Unlike short-term financing, equity investment can provide businesses with resources to expand operations, strengthen management and pursue new markets without relying exclusively on traditional bank loans.
The fund is expected to build a portfolio of approximately six to eight companies and support thousands of jobs across Egypt. At least 30% of its portfolio companies are expected to meet one or more of the EIB’s criteria for investments supporting gender equality.
For Egypt’s private sector, the fund represents another effort to channel international capital into domestic businesses. Its long-term impact will depend on how effectively the money is invested, how portfolio companies perform and whether expansion creates sustainable employment.
