Congolese Senate President Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge arrived in Lusaka on Monday evening, August 31, representing President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo at the official inauguration of Zambian Head of State Hakainde Hichilema following his second-term victory. The event also marks the swearing-in of Vice President-elect Mutale Nalumango.

Sama Lukonde leads Kinshasa's official delegation to the high-level diplomatic gathering in the Zambian capital. His attendance underscores the close bilateral relations and regional cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

Upon arrival, the Senate President was received by DRC Ambassador to Zambia Bapaga Tepupileka Serge Didie, alongside Martin Kazembe and Fifi Masuka—the governors of Haut-Katanga and Lualaba, respectively. Given that both Congolese provinces border Zambia directly, they play a critical role in cross-border trade between the two nations. The welcoming party also included national and provincial deputies, as well as representatives from the local Congolese diaspora.

The inauguration took place at Lusaka's National Heroes Stadium, drawing heads of state and diplomats from across the region.

Kinshasa's prominent presence at the ceremony highlights the importance the DRC places on its relationship with Zambia, with both countries maintaining strong partnerships in trade, security, and economic development. To mark the occasion, authorities in Lusaka declared Inauguration Day a national public holiday, allowing citizens across the country to participate in the political milestone.
