Comoros is advancing plans to improve maritime transport and regional trade, in a move that could create new opportunities for businesses across the Indian Ocean archipelago.
The African Development Bank is supporting a Maritime Transport Corridor Development and Regional Trade Facilitation Project for Comoros, with the initiative focused on improving connectivity and making cross-border commerce more efficient.
For Comorian businesses, stronger maritime links could help reduce logistical obstacles affecting the movement of imported goods and exports. Better trade infrastructure could also support agriculture, fisheries, retail and other sectors dependent on reliable shipping connections.
The project comes as Comoros seeks to deepen regional economic integration. Recent economic discussions have also highlighted stronger cooperation in trade, investment, financial services and infrastructure with Tanzania.
Improved maritime connectivity could become a key driver for Comoros’ ambitions to expand regional trade and attract private-sector investment.
