Angolan civil society organisations have asked the country's Attorney-General's Office to open a judicial investigation into the ongoing voter-registration process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The request was submitted on October 30 by three organisations: HANDEKA, UYELE and MOSAICO. They are seeking an investigation into the process, along with independent audits and clarification of the responsibilities of the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

The ministry, headed by Daniel Félix Neto, oversees the government-led voter-registration process.

According to reporting by the Portuguese news agency Lusa, the organisations said they had made previous attempts since June to obtain clarification from the ministry but remained concerned about the process.

The groups' intervention adds pressure for greater transparency and accountability in preparations for Angola's next general election.

The voter-registration process is a key part of electoral preparations because it helps determine the electorate eligible to participate. Any questions about the accuracy, accessibility or oversight of registration could become important issues in the country's political debate.

The Attorney-General's Office will now be the focus of attention as the organisations seek a formal response to their request. No finding of wrongdoing has been established by the submission itself.
