A fire broke out in a heavy waste collection truck belonging to Angola's Empresa de Limpeza e Saneamento de Luanda (ELISAL) on Friday, October 30, in the Futungo neighbourhood of Talatona municipality, Luanda.

According to local newspaper O País, the incident occurred near a pedestrian area and involved an Iveco truck operated by the city's sanitation company.

A suspected electrical short circuit caused the fire, according to Pedro Nemambo, acting spokesperson for the Luanda Provincial Civil Protection and Fire Service.

Firefighters responded to the emergency and used approximately 600 litres of water to extinguish the flames. The vehicle sustained partial damage.

The truck was being driven by a 46-year-old man. The initial report did not indicate any injuries or fatalities.

The incident highlights the importance of vehicle maintenance and electrical safety in public sanitation services, particularly for heavy vehicles operating in densely populated urban areas.
