The operation was carried out by officers from the First Arrondissement Police Station following intelligence about a suspected criminal group operating around Yagbé and allegedly planning further burglaries in the Akpakpa area.
The eight suspects were arrested in Agblangandan, Ekpè and the fifth and seventh arrondissements of Cotonou.
During searches, police reportedly recovered several items believed to be stolen, including:
- A 55-inch television.
- An HP laptop.
- A scooter and motorcycle spare parts.
- Two car jacks allegedly used to force windows.
- Four mobile phones.
Investigators also discovered communications suggesting that approximately 10 stolen motorcycles may have been transported to a neighbouring country for resale.
Four victims have so far been formally identified. The alleged leader of the network remains at large, while police investigations continue to trace the missing motorcycles and identify other possible accomplices.
The latest arrests highlight the importance of continued police action against organised crime and cross-border trafficking in stolen property.
