BANGUI, Central African Republic — The Central African Republic’s cultural calendar has gained a new event with the first edition of the National Gbanou Culture Day, held on September 6 at the Linga Tere Cultural Centre in Bangui.

The gathering brought members of the Gbanou community together to celebrate their cultural identity and heritage, while promoting dialogue and stronger connections between communities.

Organisers said the event was designed not only as a cultural celebration but also as an opportunity to strengthen social ties, encourage reconciliation and promote peaceful coexistence in the Central African Republic.

Cultural figures participating in the event highlighted the diversity within the Gbanou community itself, noting that traditions can vary between communities in areas such as Bossembélé, Yaloké and Boali.

The organisers stressed that cultural diversity should be viewed as a strength rather than a source of division. They also expressed satisfaction with the first edition and said a committee would consider how the initiative could be developed further in the future.

The event comes as cultural organisations in Bangui continue to use arts, heritage and community activities as platforms for preserving identity and strengthening social cohesion.

For the Gbanou community, the new annual cultural initiative could become an important platform for passing traditions to younger generations while encouraging dialogue and unity across the Central African Republic.
