Comoros is preparing for the 13th edition of the MGAMIDJI Festival of Traditional Arts, bringing communities and cultural performers together to celebrate the archipelago’s heritage.
The festival is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 18, 2026, across Mbéni, Moroni and Tsidjé. The event is dedicated to traditional arts, cultural heritage and dialogue between communities.
Organizers describe MGAMIDJI as a platform where young people, local communities and international cultural participants can exchange traditions and artistic practices. Music, traditional performances and cultural activities are expected to form an important part of the programme.
The festival also carries a wider social message. Its organizers promote culture as a way to encourage peace, social cohesion and understanding among young people, using traditional arts to build connections across communities.
The event comes at an important moment for Comorian heritage, following the recent UNESCO World Heritage inscription of six historic Comorian medinas.
With international attention on Comoros’ cultural heritage, the MGAMIDJI Festival is set to give traditional artists and communities another important platform to showcase the country’s identity.
