Cameroon is stepping up efforts to modernise its digital systems as authorities pursue national interoperability infrastructure to connect government platforms and improve access to public services.

The initiative forms part of the country’s broader Digital Transformation Acceleration Project for Cameroon (PATNUC), which is supported by the World Bank and linked to national digital-development objectives.

The proposed infrastructure is expected to help different government digital systems communicate more effectively, reducing fragmentation and creating a more integrated digital-government environment.

Digital security and data sovereignty are also central to the transformation agenda, as Cameroon seeks to strengthen the protection of digital systems while expanding online public services.

The push comes as Cameroon seeks to make technology a stronger driver of economic development. Government officials have previously highlighted the relatively modest contribution of the digital economy to national GDP, underlining the potential for further growth.

For citizens and businesses, better interoperability could eventually mean simpler access to government services, fewer disconnected platforms and more efficient digital transactions.

The development also positions Cameroon to expand its digital infrastructure while preparing for increased use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital identity and secure online government services.
