Cameroon is intensifying efforts to improve healthcare access in the Far North, with the Health Ministry completing a major assessment of its “Free Healthcare for All” campaign in Mokolo.

Health Minister Dr Manaouda Malachie visited Mokolo on September 2 for a final evaluation of the operation at the new Mokolo Central Hospital, which served as a major treatment point during the campaign.

The initiative forms part of a wider humanitarian healthcare operation aimed at providing medical services to populations in the Far North. The minister’s visit followed an earlier assessment in Yagoua as authorities prepared to conclude the campaign.

The campaign places healthcare accessibility at the centre of Cameroon’s public-health agenda, particularly in communities where distance and limited resources can make medical treatment difficult to obtain.

The involvement of administrative, municipal and traditional authorities in Mokolo also reflects the government’s effort to coordinate healthcare delivery with local communities.

For residents across the Mayo-Tsanaga area, the programme could provide important relief while drawing attention to the need for stronger permanent healthcare services, hospital capacity and access to treatment in northern Cameroon.
