LUANDA — Angola has inaugurated the President Julius Nyerere National Referral Hospital for Burn Treatment, creating a dedicated national centre for patients requiring specialised care for serious burn injuries.

The hospital was officially inaugurated in Luanda on August 1, 2026, and is expected to address an important gap in Angola's specialised healthcare system by providing advanced treatment and referral services for burn patients.

The new facility represents a major investment in specialised medical care and healthcare capacity. Angola's health authorities have also emphasised specialist training, international cooperation, modern clinical practices, and knowledge exchange as important elements in developing the country's burn-treatment services.

The hospital is expected to become a centre for cooperation among African medical professionals, with opportunities for specialists to exchange expertise and improve treatment approaches for complex burn injuries.

Health-sector observers say strengthening specialised referral hospitals could reduce the need for patients to seek complex treatment outside the country while improving access to advanced medical services.

The opening marks an important step in Angola's efforts to expand specialised healthcare and build stronger national capacity for treating severe burns.
