LUANDA — Angola is strengthening its role in Africa’s technology policy discussions as its delegation participates in the 7th Conference of Plenipotentiaries of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) in Abuja, Nigeria.
The meeting is bringing together African telecommunications and digital-economy policymakers to discuss the continent’s changing technology landscape, with Angola represented by Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies Ângelo Miguel Buta João.
Broadband expansion, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence governance and digital public infrastructure are among the key issues under discussion. The agenda also includes digital inclusion and the development of stronger innovation ecosystems across African economies.
For Angola, the discussions provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with other African countries while contributing to regional approaches on emerging technologies and telecommunications regulation.
Technology analysts say coordinated investment in broadband, secure digital infrastructure and responsible AI governance could help African countries expand digital services and improve access to technology.
Angola’s participation highlights the growing importance of technology policy in the country’s economic modernisation strategy and its ambitions to strengthen digital connectivity across the region.
