Cabo Verde Tech Breakthrough: Digital Skills Training at Heart of “Mudjer sem Limiti” Project for Women with Disabilities
Cabo Verde is making waves in the technology and social innovation space with its “Mudjer sem Limiti” (Woman Without Limits) project, which integrates comprehensive digital literacy training into a 17-month entrepreneurship program designed to empower 50 women with disabilities across Praia and Santa Cruz. Organized by the Cape Verdean Association for the Promotion and Inclusion of Women with Disabilities (Apimud), the initiative goes beyond basic vocational training by addressing the holistic needs of aspiring entrepreneurs, with a strong emphasis on digital skills as a cornerstone of modern business success.
The program’s curriculum is structured in three phases: life skills, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy, ensuring participants are equipped not only with business acumen but also with the tech competencies needed to thrive in today’s digital economy. “First, they receive training in life skills, then entrepreneurship, and finally at a digital level,” explained project coordinator Rosana Carvalho. The digital component includes hands-on training in computer use, online business tools, and digital marketing, enabling participants to leverage technology for business growth and market access.
To ensure inclusivity, the project has reserved 10 spots for women with visual impairments and 10 for those with hearing impairments, with the remaining 30 positions open to women with other types of disabilities. Beyond education, participants receive startup kits, mentoring, and psychological support, creating a robust ecosystem for sustainable entrepreneurship. The initiative will culminate in Cabo Verde’s first-ever entrepreneurship fair specifically for people with disabilities, showcasing the participants’ new ventures and digital innovations to the public and potential investors.
Funded by the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) with a budget of 2.15 million escudos (€19,500), “Mudjer sem Limiti” represents a significant step toward inclusive digital transformation in Cabo Verde, positioning the country as a leader in social tech and disability-inclusive innovation within the Lusophone community.
