MAPUTO — Mozambique is advancing a major $30 million modernisation project at the Machipanda border post, strengthening one of the country's key trade and transport links with Zimbabwe.

The project is focused on upgrading border infrastructure and improving the movement of people, vehicles, and commercial goods through the strategic crossing.

Officials and regional trade stakeholders expect the investment to reduce delays and improve efficiency along the Mozambique-Zimbabwe corridor. Better border facilities could support exporters, importers, transport operators, and businesses that depend on reliable cross-border logistics.

The modernisation also comes as southern African countries seek to improve regional connectivity and reduce logistical barriers affecting trade.

Business and transport analysts say more efficient border infrastructure can lower transportation costs, improve supply-chain reliability, and encourage greater commercial activity between neighbouring economies.

The Machipanda investment places Mozambique at the centre of renewed efforts to strengthen regional trade infrastructure and improve the efficiency of one of southern Africa's important commercial corridors.
