DAKAR, Senegal — A new International Monetary Fund mission is in Senegal as authorities and the Fund intensify discussions that could lead to a new IMF-supported lending arrangement.

The IMF team, led by Senegal Mission Chief Mercedes Vera Martin, is visiting Dakar from August 19 to September 1 for detailed discussions with Senegalese authorities.

The talks are focused on the policies and reforms that could receive support under a potential new programme, with the IMF saying its objective includes helping Senegal safeguard macroeconomic stability and promote sustainable and inclusive growth.

The mission is particularly significant as Senegal continues working through major fiscal and debt challenges. A successful agreement could provide an important framework for economic reforms and strengthen confidence in the country’s financial management.

The outcome of the Dakar discussions could become a major economic turning point for Senegal, with authorities seeking a sustainable path forward while balancing fiscal reforms and economic growth.

The IMF mission is expected to issue a statement at the conclusion of its visit.
