LUSAKA — Zambia is expanding its national digital skills strategy through a new programme focused on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and software engineering to prepare the country's workforce for the digital economy.

The initiative brings together technology institutions, universities, innovation hubs, and private-sector partners to provide practical training, mentorship, and digital entrepreneurship opportunities for young professionals and startup founders.

Technology experts say advanced digital skills are becoming increasingly important for Zambia’s future economic competitiveness. Training in AI, machine learning, data analytics, and cloud technologies is expected to improve innovation capacity while supporting businesses adopting modern digital solutions.

The programme also encourages collaboration between technology startups and established businesses to develop locally driven solutions in agriculture, healthcare, education, financial technology, and public services.
