Tunisia Business: New Investment Law Reaches Advanced Stage
TUNIS, Tunisia — Tunisia has moved closer to a major overhaul of its investment framework, with the drafting of a new investment law reportedly reaching an advanced stage at the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
As reported on September 16, Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Enterprises (CONECT) president Aslan Berjeb said the draft includes a proposal to consolidate investment-related structures and agencies into one entity. CONECT is expected to be consulted on the responsibilities and operating framework of the proposed structure.
The planned legislation comes as Tunisia seeks to turn investment opportunities into concrete and viable projects. Berjeb said appropriate mechanisms and resources would be needed, particularly through the new investment and foreign-exchange legislation.
Tunisia has also recently launched an Investor Platform, which aims to allow investors to establish companies in shorter timeframes. The platform is part of efforts to streamline procedures for businesses and investors.
The new investment law could therefore become an important development for domestic companies, foreign investors and investment agencies once the drafting process is completed and the legislation advances through the required procedures.
