BANJUL — The Gambia is set for a major boost in private-sector investment after industrialist Aliko Dangote pledged a reported US$2 billion strategic investment commitment focused on energy and fuel infrastructure.

The proposed investment includes a 250-megawatt solar power plant and a modern fuel tank farm designed to strengthen electricity generation, improve petroleum storage capacity, and enhance national fuel supply security.

Business analysts say the investment could become a major catalyst for The Gambia’s economic growth. Improved energy reliability is expected to support businesses, reduce operational challenges, attract new investors, and create opportunities across construction, engineering, logistics, energy, and related industries.

The solar project could also strengthen the country’s renewable energy capacity while supporting households, commercial enterprises, and industrial users with more reliable electricity.

Industry observers believe the proposed fuel storage infrastructure could improve supply resilience and strengthen the wider petroleum distribution system.
