Rumbek, South Sudan — South Sudan has taken a fresh step toward expanding digital opportunities for young people with the launch of a new Youth Computer Hub in Rumbek, Lakes State.

The facility was officially opened on September 8, 2026, through a partnership involving the national government, Lakes State authorities and MTN South Sudan. The hub is designed to provide young people with access to digital learning resources, ICT training, innovation programmes and technology-based skills development.

The initiative comes as South Sudan seeks to accelerate its wider digital transformation agenda and increase participation in the digital economy. Government officials said facilities such as the Rumbek hub can help young people develop digital and artificial-intelligence skills while creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment.

The hub is expected to serve students, young entrepreneurs, job seekers and other community members, creating a shared environment where technology skills and innovative ideas can develop.

The launch also highlights the growing role of partnerships between government and telecommunications companies in expanding digital inclusion beyond Juba. Earlier this month, the ICT ministry separately called on network operators to accelerate rural connectivity across South Sudan.

With internet access and digital participation still relatively limited nationally, initiatives that bring computers, training and innovation opportunities closer to communities could become increasingly important to South Sudan's technology sector. DataReportal estimated 1.61 million internet users in South Sudan at the end of 2025, equivalent to 13.2% of the population.

The Rumbek ICT hub therefore represents more than a new computer facility—it is part of a broader push to equip South Sudan's youth for an increasingly digital economy.
