SÃO NICOLAU, Cabo Verde — Cabo Verde’s cultural calendar is turning its attention to literature as São Nicolau hosts the Grande Feira do Livro de Cabo Verde 2026 from September 28 to 30.
The book fair arrives on the island after its earlier edition in Sal and is being held under the theme “Herança Literária” (Literary Heritage), highlighting the importance of books, writers and the preservation of Cabo Verde’s literary legacy.
The event is part of a broader effort to bring literary activities beyond the capital and connect communities on different islands with Cabo Verdean writing and cultural heritage.
With São Nicolau having a significant place in the country's literary history, the fair provides an opportunity for readers, writers and cultural audiences to engage with Cabo Verdean literature while supporting the continued promotion of reading and local authors.
The event also adds a strong literary dimension to Cabo Verde’s September cultural programme, alongside music, performing arts and other heritage initiatives taking place across the islands.
