VICTORIA, Seychelles — Seychelles has taken a major organisational step toward hosting the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games with the appointment of a National Steering Committee.

The committee was announced by the Office of President Patrick Herminie on August 31, 2026, marking the beginning of a more coordinated national preparation process for the regional sporting event.

The government-led initiative is expected to bring together relevant institutions and stakeholders to oversee planning for the Games, including coordination, infrastructure, logistics and national preparations.

The committee gives the government a central mechanism to manage preparations for one of the Indian Ocean region’s major sporting events.

The 2027 Games are expected to bring athletes and officials from Indian Ocean island nations to Seychelles, creating both sporting and diplomatic opportunities for the country.

The preparations also provide the new administration with an opportunity to demonstrate its ability to coordinate large-scale national projects and strengthen cooperation between government agencies.

The appointment signals that Seychelles is moving from long-term planning toward active preparations for the 2027 Games, with national coordination now formally under way.
