New Subsea Cable Strengthens Mauritania’s Digital Infrastructure
NOUADHIBOU, Mauritania — Mauritania has taken another major step in its digital transformation after a new subsea cable branch successfully landed in Nouadhibou, providing the country with a second direct connection to European and international digital hubs.
The new connection is part of the EllaLink submarine cable system, an advanced optical network designed to provide high-capacity and low-latency international connectivity.
The additional connection could significantly improve Mauritania’s digital resilience. Greater connectivity can help telecommunications operators, businesses and public institutions access international digital services while reducing dependence on a single international route.
The development is particularly important as Mauritania expands e-government, digital businesses, cloud services and online public services. The World Bank has identified resilient broadband infrastructure as a key requirement for the country’s growing digital economy.
The new cable could also create opportunities for technology companies and investors by improving the reliability and capacity of Mauritania’s international internet infrastructure.
For Nouakchott, stronger international connectivity represents an important foundation for the next phase of the country’s digital transformation.
