Mauritania Accelerates Digital Transformation With National Cloud
NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania — Mauritania is moving deeper into digital transformation following the launch of its national cloud platform, giving the country a new foundation for hosting government systems and expanding online public services.
The national cloud was launched at the Nouakchott data centre in June by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Modernisation of Administration. Officials said the platform is designed to strengthen digital sovereignty, support the digital economy and improve the quality of public services.
The cloud environment provides flexible computing resources, including servers, storage, networks and applications, allowing government institutions to gradually modernise their digital systems.
Mauritania is also working on the technical migration of government applications to the national cloud infrastructure through its regional digital integration programme.
The move could reduce reliance on overseas hosting while improving control over sensitive government data. It also creates an important foundation for e-government, digital identity, online financial services and other technology-driven public services.
The development comes as Mauritania seeks to build a stronger digital economy, with the government also pursuing broader policies covering connectivity, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
