Mali Grants B2Gold Permit as Fekola Regional Gold Expansion Advances

BAMAKO, Mali — Mali has granted an exploitation permit to B2Gold’s Malian subsidiary for the Menankoto project, marking a significant development for the country’s gold-mining industry.

The permit covers the Menankoto area within the broader Fekola Regional project. B2Gold says the development is expected to support additional production, with the company targeting more than 150,000 ounces of annual gold production from Fekola Regional from 2028.

The development comes as Mali seeks to increase the economic benefits generated by its mineral resources. Recent mining reforms have also strengthened the state’s participation in the sector and could help mobilize hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure projects.

The Menankoto permit could therefore attract renewed attention from mining investors, while strengthening Mali’s position as one of Africa’s major gold-producing markets.

The expansion also highlights the growing importance of mining projects to Mali’s business environment, government revenues and future investment prospects.
