Egypt Breaking News: 37 Ancient Artefacts Returned From Lebanon

CAIRO, Egypt — Egypt has received the return of 37 ancient Egyptian artefacts from Lebanon following an investigation into archaeological objects seized at Beirut port in 2020.

The artefacts were identified as belonging to Egypt after authorities investigated their origin and ownership. The items were subsequently formally handed back to Egyptian authorities, marking a new development in international efforts to recover Egyptian antiquities.

The returned collection dates from Egypt's Pharaonic civilisation, highlighting the continuing international focus on protecting and recovering cultural heritage removed from the country. The handover took place in Beirut, where Lebanese officials and Egypt's ambassador participated in the return process.

The recovery adds to Egypt's ongoing efforts to secure the return of antiquities held outside the country. International cooperation remains an important part of tracking, identifying and repatriating Egyptian archaeological objects.

The latest handover also highlights the role of customs investigations and cooperation between cultural authorities in preventing the illicit movement of archaeological heritage.
