Egypt Politics: El-Sisi and Abbas Hold Cairo Talks on Gaza
CAIRO, Egypt — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo on September 16, with the two leaders discussing the latest developments surrounding Gaza and the wider Palestinian issue.
According to Egypt’s presidency and Ahram Online, the meeting covered efforts to maintain the ceasefire, ensure sustained humanitarian access and support Gaza’s early recovery. Abbas also briefed the Egyptian president on conditions in the occupied West Bank.
El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s position against the displacement of Palestinians and said the Palestinian issue would remain a central regional concern until a comprehensive settlement is reached.
The meeting comes as Cairo continues its diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners on Gaza. Egypt has been involved in mediation efforts and discussions concerning humanitarian assistance and the implementation of ceasefire arrangements.
The talks add a new development to Egypt’s regional diplomatic agenda, particularly its role in discussions concerning Gaza, Palestinian recovery and regional stability.
