Guinea Prepares International Djembe Festival to Celebrate Cultural Heritage
CONAKRY, Guinea — Guinea is preparing to host the 2026 International Djembe and Percussion Festival, an event designed to place the country's traditional music and cultural heritage in the international spotlight.
The festival is expected to bring artists, percussion specialists and cultural experts to Conakry in December, creating a platform for performances, cultural exchanges and discussions around Guinea's rich percussion traditions.
The initiative highlights the importance of the djembe as a symbol of Guinean cultural identity, while giving local performers opportunities to connect with audiences and artists from outside the country.
Organisers are also seeking to strengthen Guinea's reputation as a major cultural destination, using music and traditional arts to promote tourism and international cultural cooperation. Guinea's cultural authorities have continued to support initiatives aimed at showcasing local creators and strengthening the country's cultural sector.
The upcoming festival is expected to generate renewed attention for Guinea's traditional music scene and its internationally recognised percussion heritage.
