Guinea Strengthens Mining Sector as Nimba Mining Signs First Convention

CONAKRY, Guinea — Guinea is moving to strengthen its position in the mining industry after state-owned Nimba Mining Company (NMC SA) signed its first mining convention on August 6, 2026.

The agreement marks a significant step for Guinea’s state mining company as the government seeks to increase national participation in the development of the country’s mineral resources. The signing took place in Conakry at a ceremony chaired by senior government officials.

The development comes as Guinea promotes the Simandou 2040 strategy and wider investment opportunities in mining, with authorities seeking to turn mineral wealth into industrial development, jobs and infrastructure. The government recently brought international investors together in Conakry for the first Simandou Mining Summit.

The latest mining agreement could increase investor attention on Guinea’s resource sector, particularly as the country works to expand local value creation and strengthen state involvement in major mining projects.
