DAKAR, Senegal — Senegal’s business sector has received a fresh investment boost after WE! Fund, a subsidiary of the Sovereign Strategic Investment Fund (FONSIS), committed 1 billion CFA francs to two Senegalese companies.

The investment targets Mayawa Agro-Industrie in Touba and Amar Bio Solutions in Sandiara, with the two projects expected to generate nearly 200 direct jobs.

At Touba, Mayawa Agro-Industrie will use the financing to acquire a new automated packaging line for its Aïnou mineral-water business. The expansion is expected to create 160 direct jobs, with more than half projected to be filled by women.

In Sandiara, Amar Bio Solutions will install automated production lines capable of producing 5,000 litres per day of hygiene and cleaning products, including liquid soaps, disinfectants and detergents. Around 40 direct jobs are expected from the project.

The investments also highlight efforts to support industrial activity outside Dakar, while Amar Bio Solutions' project focuses on biodegradable and locally produced products.

FONSIS said the operations form part of efforts to help Senegalese SMEs expand production, create employment and contribute to the development of regional economic centres.
