ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Ethiopia is intensifying efforts to protect its most important digital and technology-dependent infrastructure as the country develops a stronger national cybersecurity framework.

The Information Network Security Administration (INSA) held a national consultative forum on August 27 focusing on the Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Proclamation and designation standards. The initiative is designed to help identify infrastructure requiring enhanced protection against cyber threats.

The move follows the adoption of Ethiopia's Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Proclamation No. 1426/2026, which establishes a legal framework for protecting strategic infrastructure and strengthening the country's cybersecurity capabilities.

Ethiopia's digital transformation is rapidly expanding through services such as digital identity, electronic payments and online government platforms, increasing the importance of protecting sensitive systems and national data.

Stronger cybersecurity protection could help improve confidence in Ethiopia's growing digital economy while reducing risks to essential services and technology infrastructure.

The latest consultation also signals that cybersecurity is becoming a central component of Ethiopia's broader Digital Ethiopia 2030 agenda.
