Eritrea is seeking to strengthen its access to regional finance and investment opportunities after a senior delegation took part in Egypt’s Alamein Business Forum and held talks with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
The Eritrean delegation, led by Economic Affairs head Hagos Gebrehiwet and Trade and Industry Minister Nesredin Mohammed Saleh, participated in discussions covering infrastructure, trade, critical minerals, digital innovation and emerging industries.
A key development came during a meeting with Afreximbank President and Chairman George Elombi, where Eritrean officials discussed existing financial services between Eritrean banks and the continental trade-finance institution.
The two sides agreed to expand cooperation and introduce additional financial services for projects, potentially creating new channels for businesses and investors seeking to participate in Eritrea’s economic development.
The move comes as Eritrea looks to increase international economic engagement. The World Bank has identified mining activity and planned investment in areas such as the Colluli potash project and power infrastructure as potential contributors to future growth.
Stronger cooperation with Afreximbank could give Eritrean businesses greater access to trade finance while helping the country attract investment into priority economic sectors.
