Eritrean software developers are expanding the country’s technology landscape through mobile applications designed for education, language learning and cultural preservation.

The Shambko Apps Group has developed five applications covering areas such as Ge’ez-script learning, vocabulary development, mathematics, logic and Eritrean cultural heritage. The group says its broader goal is to adapt its digital-learning tools across all nine Eritrean national languages.

One of its applications, Fidelatey, uses interactive exercises, audio guidance and quizzes to help younger students learn the Ge’ez script used in Tigrinya. Other apps use puzzles and games to strengthen language, mathematics and analytical skills.

The developers are also looking to make their technology useful to Eritrean communities abroad, allowing younger members of the diaspora to maintain connections with their languages and cultural heritage.

The group says it is seeking cooperation with software developers, translators, educators and institutions to expand the initiative.

The growth of locally developed educational apps could give Eritrea’s young technology sector a new role in digital education while creating opportunities for software skills and innovation.
