MORONI, Comoros — Comoros is seeking stronger access to specialist heart-care services through expanded medical cooperation with Tanzania.

Authorities on Anjouan Island have requested that Tanzania’s Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) continue conducting cardiac medical camps in the country after an earlier programme generated significant demand for specialist services.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Tanzania’s Ambassador to Comoros, Dr Salim Hamad, and JKCI Executive Director Dr Peter Kisenge in Dar es Salaam.

The planned cooperation could provide Comorian patients with greater access to heart screening, diagnosis and specialist treatment, particularly for communities that face difficulties accessing advanced cardiac services.

The request follows a successful JKCI cardiac camp held in Anjouan in October 2025, which highlighted demand for specialised cardiovascular healthcare.

Continued cardiac medical camps could strengthen specialist healthcare access in Comoros while deepening medical cooperation between the two countries.

For Comoros, the initiative could also help connect local healthcare services with specialist expertise and provide additional opportunities for medical professionals to exchange knowledge.
