Health officials in Chad’s Mandoul Province are stepping up efforts to reach children who have missed routine vaccinations, following a supervision mission in Peni district conducted on October 8–9.
The mission brought together provincial and district health officials and representatives of the Gavi-supported vaccination programme to assess local immunisation activities and identify gaps in coverage.
According to a report published on October 11, the team visited community health workers at Bedigri and Ngouroumti health centres. The assessment focused on finding zero-dose children, who have not received any routine vaccines, as well as children who are incompletely vaccinated and pregnant women who may need access to essential health services.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve vaccination coverage and strengthen community mobilisation in areas where families may face barriers to accessing health facilities.
Community health workers play an important role in identifying underserved households, sharing health information and connecting families with vaccination services. The supervision mission also sought to identify challenges that could prevent children from receiving their recommended doses.
Improving access to routine immunisation remains essential for protecting children against preventable diseases. The next challenge will be turning the assessment’s findings into practical action so that more families in Mandoul can access reliable vaccination services.
The report did not provide a confirmed total of children newly vaccinated during the supervision visit.
