Benin’s economy recorded an estimated 8.1% growth in 2025, with the African Development Bank (AfDB) forecasting further expansion of 7.0% in 2026 and 7.1% in 2027, according to its 2026 Country Report.

The report, highlighted by the AfDB on 25 September, attributes the 2025 performance to activity in construction, manufacturing, transport and trade, alongside public and private investment. It also points to rising exports and improvements in the country’s macroeconomic indicators.

Despite the growth outlook, the bank says Benin will need to mobilise around US$2.43 billion annually through 2030 to accelerate economic transformation. Priority areas for financing include transport, energy, education and innovation.

The report also notes continuing challenges, including infrastructure gaps, human-capital needs and poverty. The investment requirement underscores the scale of financing needed to translate economic growth into broader development.
