According to reports, President Wadagni has appointed General Abou Issa to replace General Fructeux Gbaguidi as Chief of the General Staff. Gbaguidi is expected to take up the position of Permanent Secretary of the National Defence and Security Council.

Other important appointments include:

  • Colonel André Dokoui Fofo – New head of the Army.
  • Colonel Hervé Setondji Allotchenou – New head of the Air Force.
  • Captain Dossa Hounkpatin – New head of the Navy.

The reshuffle comes as Benin faces increasing security pressure from militant groups operating near its borders with Burkina Faso and Niger.

The country is also strengthening its defence institutions following the failed military coup attempt in December 2025.
