Togo Opposition UFC Unveils New Strategy Amid Political Changes

LOMÉ, Togo — Togo’s opposition Union des Forces de Changement (UFC) has reaffirmed its political direction as the country continues to operate under a new institutional framework.

The party restated its vision during its 10th ordinary congress in Lomé on August 8, 2026, with senior members emphasizing the need to strengthen the UFC’s presence across the country.

According to the party, the UFC intends to position itself as a constructive opposition force, combining political criticism with proposals aimed at contributing to national debate.

The congress brought together representatives from several political parties, including UNIR, CPP, MCD, PDR, PDP, CAR, CLE and NET, highlighting the broader political interest surrounding the UFC’s new direction.

The renewed strategy could give the UFC a more visible role in Togo’s evolving political landscape, particularly as opposition parties assess how to operate within the country’s new constitutional and parliamentary arrangements.

The party also plans to continue expanding its grassroots organisation and strengthening its political presence nationwide.
