Sudan has opened a new business and investment chapter after the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport signed four memoranda of understanding with Malaysian Al-Wafa Development Company and Spain’s ESESE.

The agreements, signed in Khartoum on September 14, cover water projects in El Obeid and Red Sea State, maritime vessel financing and solar energy development. Sudan’s official news agency reported that the projects are part of efforts to improve infrastructure and services.

Officials said implementation is expected to begin within a month after tenders are launched. The Central Bank of Sudan and Al-Neelain Bank are involved in providing financing mechanisms and guarantees for the projects.

The Red Sea State water project is intended to improve water supply, while the solar initiative is being linked to efforts to address electricity shortages affecting economic activity.

The agreements could create new opportunities for foreign investment, engineering services, renewable energy companies and infrastructure businesses as Sudan works to rebuild damaged economic infrastructure.
