LOMÉ, Togo — Six members of the Togolese Armed Forces have been killed and several others injured in a road accident involving a military convoy and a semi-trailer truck, according to a statement from Togo’s security minister reported on October 1.
The accident occurred on the Langabou–Nyamassila section of National Road No. 1, near the northern exit of Attipaï in Blitta Prefecture. The convoy consisted of three military transport vehicles traveling from Lomé toward Kara.
According to the reported account, two vehicles in the convoy had stopped near a bridge to allow a large truck traveling in the opposite direction to pass. The collision occurred during this manoeuvre.
Six military personnel lost their lives, while several other people sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
Security and emergency services responded to the scene, while authorities began documenting the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The incident has renewed attention on road safety along Togo’s National Road No. 1, an important route connecting the country's southern and northern regions.
