Mozambique President Daniel Chapo has arrived in New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, with the country’s peace and political dialogue process among the main issues on his agenda.
According to Mozambique’s Foreign Affairs Minister Maria dos Santos Lucas, Chapo is expected to share Mozambique’s experience with peacebuilding and the Inclusive National Dialogue during his engagements at the United Nations.
The president’s programme in New York also includes meetings with UN officials, international financial institutions and private-sector representatives. He is also scheduled to meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
The Inclusive National Dialogue has become a significant element of Mozambique’s efforts to address political and governance issues following the country’s 2024 general elections.
Chapo is also expected to engage with international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, during his visit.
The UN appearance gives Mozambique an opportunity to present its dialogue and peacebuilding experience to an international audience while pursuing diplomatic and economic contacts in New York.
