Niger Receives Four Helicopters From Algeria as Security Cooperation Deepens
NIAMEY, Niger — Niger has received four helicopters and additional equipment donated by Algeria, according to airport and security sources cited by AFP on August 11.
The delivery includes two Mi-24V helicopters and two Mi-171 multirole helicopters, according to reporting on the transfer. Additional support reportedly includes spare parts, maintenance equipment and logistical supplies.
The development comes as Niger continues to face serious security challenges linked to armed groups operating across the wider Sahel region. The new equipment is expected to strengthen Niger's operational capacity and deepen security cooperation with neighbouring Algeria.
The delivery also highlights the growing importance of Niger-Algeria relations as both countries pursue closer regional security coordination.
For Niamey, the latest support represents another significant development in its efforts to strengthen national security capabilities while expanding partnerships within the Sahel.
