MAPUTO, Mozambique — Mozambique has announced a major expansion of its digital infrastructure, with authorities accelerating the rollout of 5G services and strengthening the country's digital transformation agenda.

The latest initiative includes the allocation of 5G spectrum licenses to the country's leading telecommunications operators, paving the way for faster internet speeds, improved mobile connectivity, and enhanced digital services for businesses and consumers. Authorities say the project will play a key role in modernizing the economy and supporting future technology investments.

Government officials have also revealed plans to expand 5G coverage to provincial capitals, special economic zones, and key tourism destinations as part of a broader strategy aimed at improving nationwide connectivity and digital inclusion.

In addition, Mozambique is advancing the development of its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which seeks to promote responsible AI adoption across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, finance, and public services. The initiative is expected to strengthen innovation and position the country as an emerging digital hub in Southern Africa.

Technology experts believe that improved connectivity, expanding broadband access, and digital innovation policies could attract new investments into fintech, e-commerce, cloud services, and smart infrastructure projects over the coming years.
